AREA GRIEF SUPPORT GROUPS

Support Group for Children
ReLEAF Connections, a support group for children K-12th grade, meets virtually on the first Thursday of each month from 6:00-7:30 PM. ReLEAF Connections is sponsored by Duke Hospice Bereavement Services as a place for grieving children to connect and explore ways to navigate loss. Contact Duke Hospice Bereavement Services at 919-644-6869. 

Camp ReLEAF is a day camp for youth in grades K-8 grieving the death of a loved one.  The next Camp ReLEAF will be held on Saturday, April 30th, 2022 in Chapel Hill, NC. Through camp experiences that include arts & crafts, games, and opportunities to remember their loved one, youth will learn ways to cope with the loss and know they are not alone. For more information or to register, please Duke Hospice Bereavement Services at 919-644-6869 or DHCHCamp@dm.duke.edu
 
Support Group for Survivors of Suicide Loss
This group meets on the second and fourth Thursday each month from 7-8pm. During Covid restrictions, meetings are via Zoom.  Normally meetings are at United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Chapel Hill. There is no charge for attending the group, thanks to the generosity of local therapists who donate their time.  All facilitators are licensed mental health practitioners who are also "peers", having lost someone close to them to suicide.  There are volunteers who are willing to talk to individuals 1:1 if needed. The contact is Jodi Flick, joflick@email.unc.edu, 919-962-4988.
 
Support Group for Widowed Parents
The Widowed Parent Program at UNC offers monthly support groups for mothers and fathers who have lost their spouse or partner and who are raising children at home.  There is a mothers group on the first Tuesday of the month, and the fathers group on the fourth Wednesday of each month.  Meetings are currently virtual, with hopes to transition back to in-person at some point.  The contact for mothers is Dr. Lisa Stewart at lisastew@email.unc.edu; the contact for fathers is Dr. Justin Yopp at justin_yopp@med.unc.edu.  More information can be found at their website: www.widowedparent.org.
 
Compassionate Friends
Compassionate Friends, a mutual assistance, self-help organization offering friendship, understanding and hope to parents and grandparents who have lost a child or grandchild. Meetings are held the 3rd Monday of each month, from 7:00-8:30pm. During the pandemic, all meetings are virtual.  Normally, meetings are held in Chapel Hill.  More information can be found by emailing tcfchapelhill@gmail.com, or by calling Kathy at 919-542-2166 or 540-727-5424. 
 
Grief Support Group - Chapel Hill
Grief Oasis is a free and open providing support and comfort to those who mourn. Meetings are held year-round on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00pm at Mount Carmel Baptist Church (2016 Mt. Carmel Church Rd, Chapel Hill, NC, 27517) - or, during pandemic times, via Zoom. More information can be found by emailing griefoasis@gmail.com, or checking the website, www.griefoasis.com.
