How are facilitators chosen for the Growing thru Grief program?
The Executive Committee invites people whom they believe could be good facilitators of the group. Some have previous experience leading small groups. Others are people who have participated in the Growing thru Grief program themselves and are willing to participate in facilitator training to grow into the role of facilitator. If you are interested in becoming a facilitator, simply email us at [email protected] and express that interest. You will be contacted promptly.
How are facilitators trained?
Growing Thru Grief offers formal and informal facilitator training for potential and current facilitators: an 8-hour initial training program, periodic in-service trainings, and weekly debriefings following each Growing thru Grief Tuesday afternoon session.
What is the length and nature of the facilitator commitment?
Facilitators are expected to commit to being available the equivalent of at least two quarters per year.
Who schedules facilitator attendance and assigns facilitators to the different groups each week?
Growing Thru Grief has a volunteer who serves as the Facilitator Coordinator. The Facilitator Coordinator arranges for facilitators and their training and assures facilitator availability each week.
Would I be expected to facilitate a small group alone?
We seek to have two facilitators for each small group discussion. In some cases when two facilitators are not available, we may have only one facilitator in the group. In such instances, we make every effort to use the most experienced facilitators.
Can someone who would like to be a facilitator come to a Growing thru Grief session as an observer to learn more?
Because of our commitment to confidentiality, we do not allow observers into our groups. Only active facilitators may participate.
